Thyroid Cancer

Tiroid Hastalıkları - Tiroit Kanseri

Thyroid cancer is a type of malignant tumor that forms from the uncontrolled growth of cells in the thyroid gland. The thyroid is located at the front of the neck and produces hormones that regulate the body’s metabolism. Genetic changes in cells can disrupt this normal structure.

Subacute Thyroiditis

Tiroid Hastalıkları - Subakut Tiroidit

Subacute thyroiditis is a painful inflammation of the thyroid gland that often appears suddenly, frequently after viral infections. Most of our patients visit us due to tenderness and pain in the front of the neck, along with temporary disturbances in thyroid function. While this condition is generally temporary, it can sometimes affect a patient’s quality of life by disrupting the balance of thyroid hormones.

Postpartum Thyroiditis

Tiroid Hastalıkları - Postpartum Tiroidit

Postpartum thyroiditis is a condition that leads to temporary or permanent thyroid dysfunction after childbirth. This condition typically begins within the first year after delivery and can progress through different phases. The exact cause is unknown, but it is believed to be an autoimmune disorder similar to Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. This means the immune system damages the thyroid gland. The presence of anti-thyroid antibodies (anti-thyroperoxidase and anti-thyroglobulin) increases the risk of developing postpartum thyroiditis. Women with positive antibodies are more likely to develop the condition. In the postpartum period, an underlying autoimmune thyroid disease can flare up due to changes in the immune system. This can lead to the development of postpartum thyroiditis.

Hashimoto’s Disease and Hypothyroidism

Tiroid Hastalıkları - Hashimoto Hastalığı ve Hipotiroidi

Hashimoto’s thyroiditis is an autoimmune disease where the immune system attacks the thyroid gland. This attack leads to inflammation of the thyroid and, over time, a loss of function. As a result, the thyroid cannot produce enough thyroid hormones, leading to hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid). Hashimoto’s disease is particularly common in women and is associated with a genetic predisposition.
